Special Events
Fourth of July starts with a wake-up featuring characters from the Revolutionary War period in full dress. The day features many fun contests (many quite messy!) and everyone’s favorite, an “ultimate” capture the flag game. A great cookout at the lake is followed by the arrival of two neighboring girls’ camps for a big dance in the Rec Hall and then a spectacular fireworks display over the lake.
Aquagatta is a very fun day when campers are assigned to various Indian tribes. After a special wake-up everyone dons his war paint. The first contest of the day is a wonderful treasure hunt complete with coded clues for all age groups. The afternoon brings many fun water contests followed by a special program in the evening, along with root beer floats for everyone.
Carnival is many campers’ favorite event complete with clowns and a fun wagon offering cotton candy and other treats. During the afternoon each cabin constructs a booth on the rifle range featuring some fun game or skill - pillow fighting, a casino, tilt-a-whirl, games of chance, pie in the face, etc. After dinner in the evening a neighboring girls’ camp arrives and the games begin! This is one of the most crazy and fun nights of camp!
The Red Arrow Olympics are held on the last Friday of camp. They include almost every activity in camp - track events, swimming, sailing, skiing, horseback riding, wrestling, rifle, archery, trap, basketball, soccer, and floor hockey. There are many events for everyone on all age levels. The evening concludes with a ceremony awarding very special medals.
The Camp Play is the biggest special event at Red Arrow. For the last couple weeks of camp everyone who wishes to be involved (usually between 75-80% of the boys) in a zany, fun, musical production especially written for RAC practices diligently during rest period and free time. The results are always amazing to the wonderful enjoyment of the several hundred people (parents, friends, neighbors) who attend one of the two standing room only performances given by the boys.
